Local Businessman Arrested for Juvenile Sex Crimes
48-year-old Darrin Troyer of Dover, owner of the Amish Paranormal Society, a ghost-hunting business based in Navarre, is locked up at the Tuscarawas County Jail accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy. Troyer was arrested in a sting operation arranged by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office. Detective Cathy Bickford says she was approached by the boy’s parents after they found text messages from Troyer on their son’s phone. Bickford says she intervied the boy, who said Troyer was communicating with him through Facebook and text messages. Bickford says she started communicating with Troyer posing as the boy.
Bickford says posing as the boy she set up a meeting at Dover City Park at 3:00 in the afternoon March 30th. Troyer pushed the appointment back to 2:30 and showed up at the exact location he said he would. Several sheriff’s officials took part in the sting to arrest Troyer when he arrived.
Troyer was taken into custody and held on a $50,000 bond. His bond was paid but was revoked on Saturday after he violated the terms of his probation by sending text messages to a 15-year-old boy. Bickford says this is a warning to all parents to be cautious about your children using social media.
Troyer was charged with one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Detective Cathy Bickford at 330-339-7713.
