Dr. Amy Acton signed a stay at home order for the state of Ohio Sunday.

That order closes nonessential businesses.

These businesses are defined by the Department of Homeland Security as essential:

Health Care and Public Health Workers

Includes physicians, dentists, psychologists, mid-level practitioners, nurses and assistants, etc.

Law Enforcement, Public Safety and First Responders

Emergency management personnel, 911 call centers, hazardous material responders, etc.

Food and agricultural workers

Workers supporting groceries, pharmacies and other retail that sells food and beverage products, food manufacturer employees, restaurant carry-out and fast food, farm workers, company cafeterias, etc.

Energy employees

Electrical industry, petroleum workers, natural gas and propane workers

Waste and wastewater

Operational staff at water authorities, staff at water systems, staff at wastewater treatment facilities, etc.

Transportation and logistics

Truck drivers, mass transit workers, employees of firms providing services that enable logistics operations, including cooling, storing, packaging, postal and shipping employees, etc.

Public works

Workers who support operation, inspection and maintenance of dams, locks, levees, bridges, water and sewers, etc

Communications and information technology

Workers who support radio, television, and media service, including, but not limited to front line news reporters, studio, and technicians for newsgathering and reporting, maintenance of communications infrastructure, central office personnel to maintain and operate central office, data centers, and other network office facilities, Workers supporting the provision of essential global, national and local infrastructure for computing services (incl. cloud computing services), business infrastructure, web-based services, and critical manufacturing, etc.

Community based government operations

Federal, State, and Local, Tribal, and Territorial employees who support Mission Essential Functions and communications networks, weather forecasters, Educators supporting public and private K-12 schools, colleges, and universities for purposes of facilitating distance learning or performing other essential functions, if operating under rules for social distancing, etc.
